PLANNED PARENTHOOD*: WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING
Planned Parenthood (PP) is a "multi-billion dollar multinational conglomerate whose tentacles extend to 120 countries worldwide.''1 It has an unassailable, sterling public image as an excellent provider of social services for the needy, defender of the oppressed, an advocate of low-cost and readily available health care services for women, and developing insightful educational programs for the youth.
This is, however, a reputation built on illusions.
ABORTION PROVIDER
"PP is the world's oldest, largest and best organized provider of abortion and birth control services."2 In the U.S. alone, PP is directly "responsible for the abortion of over 122,000 lives each year. At an average of $285 for each abortion, PP earned more than $34 million in blood money."3
Wall Street Journal in its June 1984 issue has called Planned Parenthood Federation of America "the most vocal advocate for the continuation of legal abortion" and "the single largest provider of abortion in the U.S."4
In fact, "PP of Atlanta was the primary litigant in the Doe v. Bolton case in 1973."5 The U.S. Supreme Court used this case, along with Roe v. Wade to legalize abortion on demand throughout pregnancy. Since that time, and as a result of that legalization, about 27 million babies have been killed by abortion in the U.S.
Over the years, PP has gained wide respectability and acceptance by focusing its abortion and birth control services to low-income women. These services to the poor are a double-edged sword being used to benefit the organization. On the one edge, PP's services to the poor qualifies it to receive U.S. government funding. On the other edge, it uses this fund to destroy the poor, the minorities and the Blacks which is its real racist agenda.
MANDATING POPULATION CONTROL
Aside from its worldwide campaign to legalize abortion, PP is seeking "mandatory population control measures, compulsory sterilization for those with two children, tax penalties for large families and payments to encourage abortion."6
From its beginnings, PP has stimulated inter-governmental and non- governmental agencies, to undertake family planning programs. The United Nations and its specialized agencies have become major forces in the family planning arena as a result of IPPF efforts.7 IPPF and UNICEF have reached an agreement which would expand their working relationship. IPPF is urging local family planning associations to develop projects that will be funded by UNICEF.8 Also, IPPF has consultative status to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA). In April, 1989, Hafdan Mahler, Director General of WHO from 1973-1988 became head of IPPF which further cemented the link between IPPF and WHO.
PRO-CHOICE
PP claims to advocate women's freedom of choice. In 1984, PP stated: "We...have spent the better part of this century supporting and fighting for everyone's freedom to make their own decisions about having children without government interference."9
But this freedom does not apply to peoples it considers inferior. "China, for instance, has taken PP's suggestions to heart, launching a brutal one- child-per-couple policy.''10 After nearly 100 million forced abortions, mandatory sterilizations and infanticides later, PP maintains that China's genocidal population control is a model of efficiency."11 It has fought vigorously to restore U.S. funding which was cut because of this and even increased its own funding and program support.12
Similar draconian measures have been implemented in dozens of poor Third World countries. PP provides these countries with detailed restraints and quotas, compulsory incentives and penalties, and assistance in manipulating and circumventing public opinion and moral opposition.
RACISM, ELITISM, AND EUGENICS
The racism and elitism of PP is not surprising when one considers the views of its founder, Margaret Sanger, the soul of PP, and the birth control and abortion movement throughout the world.
Sanger's entire life was devoted to what she called "her cause," the international birth control movement. She coined the term "birth control" and she was instrumental in the invention of the Pill, an abortifacient, and other contraceptives.
As President of the American Birth Control League, she edited its publication, The Birth Control Review. In the May 1919 issue of that review, she wrote, "more children from the fit, less from the unfit - that is the chief issue of birth control." The motto on the masthead of the December 1921 issue emphasized the purpose of birth control which was according to Sanger: "To create a race of thoroughbreds."
Sanger also batted for abortion. In her Credo for Women's Rights, she advocated "The Right to Create and The Right to Destroy," and she said, "No one can doubt that abortion is justifiable." She also one wrote, "The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it."
According to her, the most "insidiously injurious philanthropy" was maternity care given poor women. Commenting on the funds given to the blind, the deaf, and those in almshouses and reformatories, she said that the public should realize the "terrible cost to the community of this dead weight of human waste." She also chastised the Marxists who did not believe that the growth of the working class should be regulated and called them "benign imbeciles."
Sanger collaborated with European eugenicists in promoting her ideas. She invited Hitler's adviser on race hygiene, Eugene Fischer, to the U.S. A board member of the American Birth Control League, Lothrop Stoddard, had personal interviews with Hitler and was very impressed. His book, "The Rising Tide of Color Against White World Supremacy" was favorably reviewed in the October 1920 issue of Birth Control Review. The April 1933 issue focused entirely on eugenic sterilization.
Sanger once proposed a birth control plan for the blacks which will employ three or four black ministers to promote birth control among blacks in Southern U.S. She wrote: "The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through religious appeal. We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate them, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." Sanger herself proposed that dysgenic groups (those with bad genes) be given a choice of sterilization or lifelong segregation in work camps.
Today, more than ever, the tactic of PP has always been to use gullible priests and nuns to soften opposition and gain respectability and acceptance. In fact, one of PP's programs was to reorient theology. No wonder there are many priests today who mouth the line of PP without realizing it. Sanger was actually a vocal critic of the Church and really wanted to destroy it, although baptized in it.
A black woman, Faye Wattleton, is now serving as President of PP. With a black woman as cover, "PP is primarily targeting black neighborhoods in the U.S. with its abortion clinics, pressuring poor black women to kill their babies, and undermining poor black families by performing abortions on black minors without their parents' knowledge and consent.''13 No wonder, the rate of abortion among blacks in the U.S. is three times the rate for whites.
FREE SEX
PP's covert agenda is really to make people promiscuous, low in morality and to destroy the family. Sanger was a product of a broken family and lived from men to men, at one time having several at the same time. This is what Sanger did when she lived and what she wanted others to do. This was expertly camouflaged under the banner of overpopulation, women's liberation and freedom of choice.
In 1942, Sanger renamed her organization, Planned Parenthood and she founded IPPF in 1948 with headquarters at London provided by the English Eugenics Society free of charge. Sanger is still honored today with "The Margaret Sanger Award" given annually at the National PPFA Convention.
PP deceptively uses various names in different countries, e.g., in Germany they call themselves "Pro-Familia"; in Brazil "Benefit the Family."
FPOP
Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) is the Philippine affiliate of PP. The standards of affiliation require that each affiliate publicly support and further the aims and policies of PP.
Today, FPOP is against abortion. But so is PP in the beginning. In 1963, PP stated: "An abortion kills the life of a baby after it has begun. It is dangerous to your life and health. It may make you sterile so that when you want a child you cannot have it.''14 Also in 1973, a PP booklet, "ABC's of Birth Control cited this equation: one sperm joins one egg=baby.''15 But while they are publicly saying this, they are secretly organizing an association of abortionists. By 1976, with PP help, the National Abortion Federation was formed in the U.S. which today performs more than one-half of the 1.6 million abortions in that country yearly.
In 1978, Faye Wattleton, told the New York Times that she "was putting the notice that the traditionally low-keyed organization was going to become more aggressive in the battle for abortion rights.''16 In 1983, Alfred Moran, Chief of PP-New York City said in the New York Times, "Until we reach the millennium when we have a perfect contraceptive, when every pregnancy is planned and all children are born wanted, PP will continue to provide not only sex education and contraception but also abortion.''17
From this, we can see that initial anti-abortion rhetoric of most birth controllers is merely a deception. In fact, there are reports that 40 abortion machines are already in the bodega of FPOP waiting for the ripe time when this can be introduced.
To the minds of these perverts, Responsible Parenthood is one or two children by using artificial contraceptives, freedom of choice for women to abort their babies, women's reproductive rights which is really to engage in sex in and out of marriage without the dangers of having children. In short, sex without responsibility.
Today, most of the officials in and out of government and in the NGOs promoting family planning and contraception, had their stint with FPOP.
