Legionaries of Christ
Legionaries of Christ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Legionaries of Christ [LCs] were formed in Mexico City on 1/3/41 by a seminarian, Marcial Maciel [now Father Maciel]. From 13 seminarians, they have grown to more than 350 priests and 2,000 seminarians in 16 countries. They have opened 6 universities, 70 schools, and 630 centers for the promotion of works of apostolate among the laity. The centers are located in 92 cities.
On the 50th anniversary (1/3/91), the Holy Father ordained 60 Legionaries to the priesthood. On 11/24/94 [50th anniversary of Fr. Maciel's ordination], the Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico ordained 57 Legionaries to the priesthood.
The LCs are very orthodox and are experiencing phenomenal growth.
Regnum Christi is the lay organization/apostolate associated with the LCs.
